Job Opportunity: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse - Nights

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (night shift)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (Registered Nurse specialty)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA certification only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certification only
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Competency with ventilators
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic documentation system (required)
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual renewal required)

License Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • License verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs

Background and Health Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) completed within 1 year of start
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required, including at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Competency with ventilators
  • Experience with Epic electronic documentation system

  • No on-call duties for this position
  • Background checks and fingerprinting are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to start
  • Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days may require updated health screenings and fingerprinting
  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements
