Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Lancaster, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Labor & Delivery RN (LDRP experience preferred)
  • Shift Options:
    • 3x12 hour shifts or 4x12 hour shifts
    • Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend as needed
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to sister units
  • Patient Population: Mostly high-risk patients

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years in Labor & Delivery with ability to catch and transition infants after delivery
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (American Heart Association only)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program, AHA/AAP only)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, AHA only)
  • Certifications Preferred: STABLE certification

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local radius: 60 miles
  • Locals considered (at a reduced rate)
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and form)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County and state criminal checks (7 years)
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal and FACIS 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every 30 days
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed
  • State-specific search for Medicaid excluded providers
  • NURSYS license verification required
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters if low titer)
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Clinical references: minimum 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, orientation acknowledgments, and others must be completed prior to start
  • Orientation modules (~2 hours) must be completed before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Radiation badge required only for OR RNs and CST (not for this position)

Additional Notes

  • Floating to sister units is required within scope
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • First-time travelers are not accepted

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with at least 2 years of L&D experience, who hold the required certifications and licensure, and are comfortable working night shifts with floating responsibilities in a high-risk patient environment.
