Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Carmel, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit: 5C, a 31-bed med-surgical unit
- Focus areas: General surgery, urology, gynecology, bariatric surgery
- Patient ratio: 1:6
- Must have experience with bariatric surgery, thyroidectomy, bowel obstruction, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Floating required
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (specialty experience requirement)
- Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or RQI accepted)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke, and other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment—verify per unit requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year work/living history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Transcript or diploma verification required
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Must be able to float to other units as needed
