Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
  • Work radius: 60 miles
  • Specialty: Medical Surgical (MS)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Medical Surgical experience (teaching hospital experience preferred)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not accepting first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
  • Orientation: Biweekly orientation on Mondays
  • Licensure: Candidates with pending certifications will be considered
  • Dress Code: Any color scrubs, professional appearance, child-friendly print tops allowed, scrub/lab coat allowed
  • Facility is a nicotine-free campus

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Candidate profile including work history
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist
  • Minimum 2 manager/charge references within the past 2 years
  • RN license verification (NURSYS verification within 2 days of submission)
  • Copies of all required certifications

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3 (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
  • Education verification (MSW or BSW diploma for social workers, if applicable)
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire if applicable
  • Immunizations: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines or positive titers required; exemptions apply for candidates born before 1957)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (instant drug screen permitted; marijuana not required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical and religious exemptions accepted with mask requirement)

Competencies & Testing

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara)
  • Competency exam as applicable to specialty/profession

Notes

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training available onsite monthly; travelers must sign up for first available class after assignment starts
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment
