Job Opportunity: Pathologist Assistant

Location: Lansing, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work hours: 0900-1730
  • No weekends or call requirements
  • Floating coverage primarily at the main hospital location; occasional coverage at a nearby reference lab (15 minutes away)
  • Daily workload: Approximately 600-700 blocks processed, including complex surgical cases, small biopsies, and outreach specimens

Requirements

Education & Certification

  • Graduate from a Bachelor's Pathologists’ Assistant program OR successful completion of a post-bachelor’s program from an approved school of Pathologists’ Assistant
  • Certification required: PA(ASCP)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience required in the specialty
  • First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card
  • E-Verify compliance
  • Background checks including:
    • Minimum 7 years of county and state checks
    • Social Security Number Trace
    • National Criminal History Search (7 years)
    • National Sex Offender Database Search
    • FACIS Level 3 Search
    • Education verification
  • Current Michigan state license verification (within 30 days of start)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (must note latex sensitivity)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen with THC within 30 days of start (medical marijuana cards or dilute screens not accepted)
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity verification
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
  • Fit mask OSHA respirator form completed at least 1 week prior to start
  • Facility-specific documents and orientation modules to be completed as required

Certifications

  • PA(ASCP) certification mandatory
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) is NOT required for this laboratory role

Additional Information

  • Candidates will handle a high volume and variety of pathology specimens daily
  • Floating between main hospital and reference lab locations may be required

This position is suitable for healthcare professionals with at least 1 year of experience as a Pathologist Assistant who are open to travel assignments and meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above.
