Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend (6 weekends total during contract)
- Float: Required; all travelers may float between all campuses in the system
- Holidays: As needed
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient Population: Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU patients including MI, CHF, cardiac surgeries, post cardiac cath, LVAD, Impella, IABP, Arctic Sun, renal failure CRRT, respiratory failure, sepsis, open heart surgical patients, AAA repair, vascular surgeries, ECMO
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
- First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience not required)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia Exam (must pass with 82% or higher; 2 attempts allowed)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification for some cardiac units)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- SICU experience preferred
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
- Post cardiac surgery care (both directly from OR and not)
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization intervention
- Pulmonary artery line (Swan Ganz) monitoring
- ECMO, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, Sheath Removal, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Replacement (TAVI/TAVR) preferred
- IV insulin protocols
- Chronic and acute renal failure management preferred
- Continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVHA/CRRT) required
- Arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care and management, IV starts
- Continuous IV sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Management of BiPAP and CPAP
- Assistance with chest tube insertion and removal
- Care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of ABGs, suctioning (ETT, NT), ventilator management
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Social Security Card
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Transcript/Diploma for highest education level (if applicable)
- Education verification by a 3rd party (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
- High School Diploma/GED verification (as applicable)
- State RN license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months)
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required by 10/20)
- Fit mask test (N95) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
- Physical exam (if applicable)
Testing & Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (pass/fail, 82% passing score)
- Color blindness testing (if applicable)
- Facility-specific orientation and safety manual acknowledgment
- Pass/Fail testing for EPIC or Dysrhythmia/EKG required for all RNs
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Candidate must complete a health history form and upload prior to clearance
- Floating policy applies to all agency staff (except non-clinical)
- Badge photo must meet strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)
- References: 2 supervisory references required for clinical positions (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history required
- Verification of all employment within last 5 years required through third party
