Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Float to all ICUs, PACU, ED (for ICU holding patients), and all IMC units
• Patient mix includes fresh open heart surgeries (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR), ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, chronic and acute renal failure
• Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2 patient care
• No block scheduling; holidays and weekends every other
• Locals and first-time travelers accepted

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
• Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• IV Certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with adult, neonate, pediatric, and maternal-fetal patients
• Experience in acute care, outpatient, and long-term acute care settings
• Experience assisting with BiPAP and CPAP
• Experience with chest tube insertion and removal assistance
• Proficient in 12 lead EKG interpretation

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (confirm with program coordinator)

Prior Travel Experience

• First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required

Required Competencies & Testing

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must be completed within 72 hours of signing)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for adult critical care units)
• IV Therapy/Infusion Exam (required for all RNs)
• Pass/Fail Testing for EKG and Medication (3 attempts max, remediation required after first failure)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
• Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
• Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Fit test and Respiratory Medical Clearance required prior to start
• Latex Allergy Screening Questionnaire (if applicable)
• Color Blind Exam (if job tasks require color discrimination)

Background & Documentation

• Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
• Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
• Work history verification for at least 1 year prior to start (New Jersey state requirement)
• Completion of facility-specific floating policy and annual education sign-offs

Additional Information

• All RNs must complete the Peripheral IV and Central Line Education Package for new bookings (fee applies)
• Travelers will be required to sign attestation regarding pending background checks if applicable
• Floating to multiple units is required; flexibility is essential
• Patient care involves complex cardiovascular and critical care nursing
