Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit focused on Oncology with mixed acuity PCU and MS units.
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs. Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but are not guaranteed to change.
Patient Diagnoses
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myeloid Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Special Procedures/Unit Details
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical (MS) and Oncology experience (Hematology-Oncology experience strongly preferred).
- Chemotherapy certification is NOT required.
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Required Skills
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing skills
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Nasal cannula administration
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Completion of a 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific requirements apply)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role
- Employment application and skills checklist required prior to start
- Compliance with facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, fraud/waste/abuse training, and ethics compliance
- Annual background and compliance training updates as required
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
This position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized oncology transplant unit with a diverse patient population and advanced therapies. Candidates should have strong MS and oncology nursing skills and be prepared for rotating 12-hour shifts.
