Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Workdays include weekdays and some weekends with rotating holidays
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- Estimated patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- IV start skills required
- Telemetry (Tele) experience required
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred (not mandatory)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using specific Ohio code (3701.881) within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) at time of graduation or currently accredited program
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must be completed prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; annual TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting with contracts on or after 7/13/2026; onsite fit testing available if needed
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual review and signature of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual review and signature of ethics and compliance policies (for new contracts signed 11/7/24 and beyond)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Notes
- Parking options available but at candidate’s expense
- Background check and fingerprinting processes are time sensitive; candidates are encouraged to complete fingerprinting promptly
- Candidates with breaks in service longer than 90 days must renew fingerprinting if older than 1 year
- Facility may allow renewal of BLS and ACLS certifications onsite
