Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, every other weekend)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Must pass a tele (telemetry) test at orientation (pass/fail, one attempt only, minimum 80%).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Massachusetts.
• Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with ED experience within the last year.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA only).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (AHA only).
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance and Background Requirements

• Valid driver’s license or state ID.
• Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance within 30 days prior to start.
• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county search, national criminal search, NSOR, OIG, and SAM checks. Annual update required for direct hires.
• Education verification of highest completed education (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable; diplomas not accepted).
• Employment application covering 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
• Two professional references within the last three years.
• Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually as applicable.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions (signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA).
• Negative TB testing: Two PPDs (one within 90 days, one within 1 year) or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days. If positive, chest X-ray within 5 years plus facility-specific TB questionnaire and release letter from physician.
• Immunizations or valid declinations (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU):

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (3-dose series or reactive titer required; declination valid for 1 year)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Influenza (required during flu season, 10/1–3/31)
  • COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
• Drug screening within 30 days of start covering a comprehensive panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, fentanyl, oxycodone, and others.

Additional Notes

• Telemetry exam required only for RNs working in telemetry-monitored units, including Labor & Delivery; not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, or NICU.
• Candidates must pass medication and telemetry exams on the first day of orientation to avoid cancellation.
• Facility-specific declinations for vaccines must be updated annually where applicable.
• Some certifications and competencies may require completion of assigned modules or training prior to start.
