Registered Nurse - Trauma Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per 2 weeks (4x12 hours, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 48
Unit Description
- 45-bed trauma medical/surgical unit focused on acute and chronic care for hemodynamically and medically stable trauma patients.
- Fast-paced specialty medical/surgical environment.
- Patient admissions from Emergency Department, ICU transfers, or surgical/procedural services.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare).
- Drip medication administration required on all floors.
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Nebraska
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NRP certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Certifications & Compliance
- BLS required; ACLS, PALS, NRP as applicable per unit.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks.
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually.
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
- Immunizations required: Tdap (within 10 years), 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers, Hepatitis B titer or declination, 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer, annual TB testing or chest x-ray if positive history.
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years (1 must be most recent employer if not a current traveler).
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
- State-specific registry and abuse/neglect checks required prior to start.
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Travelers are first to float to meet staffing needs.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat).
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions allow up to 2 weeks off, requests subject to manager approval.
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
Summary
This travel RN position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in a large urban hospital trauma or medical/surgical setting, EPIC charting proficiency, and flexibility to float frequently.
