Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Schedule: Night shift, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, working every other weekend
• Weekly Hours: 40 hours (5 shifts of 8 hours each)
• Must pass a pass/fail Telemetry test on the first day of orientation (only one attempt allowed; minimum score 80%)
• Charting system experience required: Epic

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Massachusetts
• Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health records

Compliance & Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county searches, national criminal search, and federal exclusions
• Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance required within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification of highest completed education (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable)
• Valid government-issued photo ID required
• Employment application covering 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Two professional references within the last three years

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol (2 PPDs or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days) and TB questionnaire required
• Required vaccinations or facility-specific declinations (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, Maternity, NICU):

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (3-dose series or reactive titer)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine (most recent as of August 2025) or declination
• Drug screening within 30 days of start, including panels for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, fentanyl, and others

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete a medication exam/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
• Telemetry exam required only for RNs working in telemetry-monitored units (not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, NICU)
• Candidates failing required exams on orientation day will be canceled immediately
• Background check hits require compliance attestation before assignment
• Some certifications and competencies may require annual updates or renewals

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses licensed in Massachusetts who are comfortable working night shifts and have proficiency with Epic electronic health records.
