Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Schedule: Choice of 3x12 or 4x12 shifts for RNs
- Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Will work every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- Charting System: EPIC (experience required)
- May float to other MedSurg units as needed
- Scrub Color: Royal blue
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
- Minimum 1 year of Hematology/Oncology experience within the last year
- Chemotherapy Certification (CHEMO)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Nurse license valid in Connecticut (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
- Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC required for Oncology)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA or ARC only (recommended)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with unit description)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Oncology
- Minimum Years of Experience: 3 years (based on chemo certification and specialty requirements)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Competencies and Training
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%) within 12 months of start
- Color Blind Testing (must score 80% or higher; required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required if assigned to Telemetry or ICU units (not required for Oncology)
- EPIC testing or training required prior to or during orientation
- Multiple facility-specific training modules and attestations required (e.g., Stroke Education, CLABSI Prevention, Preventing Pressure Injury, Patient Transportation with Oxygen, Pyxis ES MedStation, Baxter Pump Interoperability, Patient Bedside Rounding, Ventricular Assist Device Awareness, AME Blood Administration, New Employee Orientation, 21st Century Cures Act, ED Handbook, eCart Training, Chaperone Policy Training, Fire Safety Module)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months of start and annually thereafter (3M N95 preferred; must be clean shaven)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
- Annual TB Questionnaire
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, and Postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required
Background and Employment History
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months of start (including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Verification of last 7 years of employment with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Education verification required; foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
- Transcript or diploma may be requested if education verification cannot be completed
- References required per standard guidelines

- Candidate must have photo ID matching legal name on first day
- Language Services Training required
- CAUTI Education Training required (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training required
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required except for ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU
- Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure required if applicable to certain units (not typically Oncology)
