Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Leominster, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Float between two hospital campuses within the area
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
• Unit includes a psychiatric holding area within the ED
• Charting system: Epic
• Scheduling is flexible based on unit needs; no block schedules allowed
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every other weekend and holidays
• Shift flexibility: Must be able to start up to 4 hours before or after scheduled start time due to critical department needs
• Call: Not required

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Valid driver’s license or state ID
• Background checks including:

  • 7-year criminal background check (within 30 days of start) covering all counties lived/worked
  • National and state-specific checks as required
• Education verification of highest completed degree (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable)
• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, including physician statement of fitness without restrictions
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (specific drug panels required)
• Immunizations and/or declinations as applicable:

  • COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
  • Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, NICU, Maternity)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – positive titer, vaccines, or declination (declinations not accepted for Pediatrics, NICU, Maternity)
  • Varicella – positive titer, vaccines, provider-documented history, or declination
  • Hepatitis B – positive titer, 3-dose series, or declination (declinations valid for 1 year)
• Tuberculosis screening:

  • Two PPD tests (one within 90 days, one within 1 year) or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates
• References: Two references within the last three years
• Employment application covering 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklist updated annually as applicable

Additional Information

• Orientation includes mandatory pass/fail testing for telemetry and medication knowledge
• Telemetry exam required only for RNs working in telemetry-monitored units (including Labor & Delivery); not required for OR, Psychiatry, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, or NICU
• No block scheduling; scheduling is based on unit needs
• Weekend and holiday coverage every other weekend
• Must be able to float between two campuses in the area

This position is ideal for a well-rounded Emergency Room RN comfortable with a fast-paced environment, including psychiatric patient care within the ED.
