Job Opportunity: Cardiac Tele Registered Nurse
Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Job Summary
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Unit Type: Overflow Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) with cardiac telemetry focus
- Bed Count: 32 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Weekends: Typically every other weekend; travelers fill in gaps after permanent staff scheduling
- Call: Rare, with a 2-hour response time; travelers typically do not manage Precedex
- Holidays: Travelers expected to work 1-2 major holidays if they fall within the assignment period
- Orientation: Maximum 7 days per contract; number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year as a Registered Nurse (1st time travelers not accepted)
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
- Comfortable managing continuous IV medications including:
- Cardiac drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin
- Diuretics: Bumex, Lasix
- Anticoagulants: Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin
- Insulin drips
- Clinical Skills:
- Arrhythmia management (stable A-Fib, SVT, Bradycardia)
- Cardioversion
- Cardiac CHF, chest pain, renal, pulmonary conditions (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT
- Surgical post-op care (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
- Occasional vascular patients, post cardiac catheterization, TR Bands, DKA
- Occasional orthopedic or CVA patient overflow (transferred ASAP)
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse license valid in Georgia
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Must meet annual license verification requirements (e.g., NURSYS)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including:
- County and national criminal searches
- Sex offender registry check
- Education verification of related degree (can be pending with proof running)
- Drug screen: Negative 10-panel drug test within 60 days of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, THC, etc.)
- Health documents required:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or chest x-ray if prior positive
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Flu vaccination or declination (required during flu season)
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Verification of most recent work history (can be pending with proof running)
- Two clinical references required
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for telemetry/IMCU) with up to 3 attempts allowed; failure on third attempt results in cancellation
- Color blindness test required; alternative assessment available if needed
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Unit uses Epic (preferred), Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling
- Locals accepted at the same rate as travelers
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry RNs who have prior travel experience and are comfortable managing complex cardiac drips and arrhythmia patients in an intermediate care setting.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Comfort managing continuous IV medications including Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Nitroglycerin
- Comfort managing anticoagulants such as Aggrastat and Heparin
- Comfort managing insulin drips
- Experience with cardioversion
- Telemetry experience
