Job Opportunity: Stepdown Neuro Registered Nurse

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care
• 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
• Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
• Eight beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
• Multi-care level unit; nurses may care for up to six Med Surg patients simultaneously

Shift Details

• Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 in a 4-week period (Friday and Saturday nights for nights)

Staffing Ratios

• Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
• Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
• Prior travel experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• Must be prepared to float frequently across multiple units within scope, including potential float to a nearby campus
• Drip medication administration required on all floors
• EPIC electronic charting experience required
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract

Licensure & Certifications

• Active RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted if in hand before start; otherwise, booking delayed 6 weeks)
• ACLS, BLS, and other certifications as applicable per unit requirements (AHA standards)
• State license verification and primary source verification required prior to start

Facility & Work Environment

• 100% nicotine-free facility
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
• Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
• Parking available via permit (~$55/month) or daily rates

Time Off & Scheduling

• Up to two weeks of Request Time Off (RTO) allowed; must be submitted with application
• RTO blackout dates: June 11–22, 2026 (due to College World Series)

Background & Health Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks
• Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
• Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccines or positive titer
  • Flu vaccine documentation or declination required for 2025-2026 season
  • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
• Annual skills checklist required
• Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references from work within the past 2 years (one must be most recent employer if not a current traveler)
• Must be located more than 100 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
