Unit Details

• Department: ICU
• ICU Beds: 6
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
• Shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend typically
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday typically
• Call/Standby: Limited call may occur occasionally, no regular on-call

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• STEMI, 3rd Degree Heart Block, COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Sepsis, COVID-19, Influenza

Job Responsibilities

• Care for patients on ventilators, temporary pacemakers, balloon pumps, hemodynamic monitoring, BiPAPs
• Titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, levophed, vasopressin, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, neosynephrine)
• Attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab (day shift)
• Float to Med Surg, ED, or Behavioral Health Care units if experienced (floating not required without experience)
• Sign off on cardiac monitor strips 3 times per shift (with Tele/Monitor Tech support 24/7)
• Collaborate with PT/OT/SLP and Pulmonary or Cardiac Rehab teams
• Work with Respiratory Therapists from nasal cannula to ventilator support
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor present on unit
• Nurse Aide ratio: 1:6

Required Certifications

• Current Illinois RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS and NIH certifications preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

• Must have experience caring for ICU patients requiring ventilators, temporary pacemakers, balloon pumps, hemodynamic monitoring, BiPAPs, and titrating drips

Orientation

• 1 full shift of department-specific orientation with training binder provided
• 12 non-billable orientation hours guaranteed

• Scrub color: Any color allowed
• Dress code: Close-toed shoes and good personal hygiene required
• Drug-free workplace: Negative drug screen required for all panels
• Local clinicians within 50 miles may have specific rate considerations (not included here)

This position offers the opportunity to work in a quiet city environment a couple of hours from Chicago, providing critical care nursing in a well-supported ICU setting.
