ICU RN Travel Assignment - Kearney, Nebraska

Position Overview

  • ICU RN needed for a travel assignment starting ASAP in Central Nebraska.
  • Experience required with balloon pumps and invasive transducing of a simple arterial line.
  • Must have current Nebraska or multi-state compact RN license.
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years ICU experience, including cardiac experience.
  • Experience with:
    • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
    • Impella device
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Day 2/Day 3 post-op Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABGs)
  • Pediatric experience highly preferred (PALS required for all).

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active and in good standing NE or compact RN license.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS certifications required.

Unit Details

  • 10-bed ICU unit (average daily census: 5+).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 (lower acuity).
  • Patient types: Open heart surgery, CHF, COPD, overdose, sepsis, CVAs with TPA, DKA, some neuro cases (no ICP yet), TeleStroke program.
  • Patient age: Adults and patients under 8 years admitted to ICU; pediatric patients over 8 years typically in PCU or Med Surg unless ICU level care needed.
  • Scrub colors: Navy blue, black, or charcoal grey.
  • Teamwork is emphasized on the unit.

Job Expectations

  • Must be willing to float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical units as needed; travelers are first to float.
  • Weekend shifts required, typically 2 weekends per month but may be more.
  • May require up to 2 extra shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Punctuality and attendance are critical; termination possible after 3 call-outs.
  • No self-scheduling or blocked scheduling; schedules based on unit needs.
  • Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday shift on 12-hour nights every other week.
  • Up to 2 mandatory overtime shifts every 6 weeks.

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts: 0600-1830 or 1800-0630.
