Job Opportunity: MedSurg 4N Neuro Nurse

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Department: Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
• Unit Beds: 25
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Patient Types: MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
• Common Drips RN Must Titrate: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
• Common Drips: PCA pumps
• Tele/Monitor Techs interpret strips; RNs should have tele awareness

Requirements & Certifications

• Certifications Required: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• RN Exam: Pass/fail exam during orientation; 90% required to pass
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Driver’s License: Required at submission to verify distance
• Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (12-hour shifts)
• Scheduling: Travelers will be scheduled; limited block scheduling allowed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s
• Floating: Required to float to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds
• Orientation: 2 days of unit-specific orientation

Additional Information

• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes assignment
• Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1:10-20
• Scrub Color: Navy Blue for RNs
• Equipment: Mechanical lifts in every other room
• Unit Focus: Hourly rounding, responsiveness, managing multiple discharges/admissions daily
• Desired Nurse Qualities: Good attendance, team player, friendly, compassionate, patient-centered care
• Patient Diversity: Serves patients from diverse cultural backgrounds including Spanish, Karen, Burmese

This position is ideal for MedSurg nurses with neuro experience who thrive in a fast-paced, diverse environment and are comfortable managing multiple complex patients.
