NICU Registered Nurse Travel Job - California

Location

San Luis Obispo, California

Job Details

Contract length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (6 AM to 6 PM)
Hours per day: 12
Hours per week: 36
Unit: NICU acute care nursery
Patient census: 4 beds, with 2 nurses scheduled per shift
Nurse-to-patient ratio: up to 1:3
EMR system: Cerner
No charge nurse or nurse aides on the unit
Ventilated patients are stabilized and transferred out
Neonatal Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
Neonatologist on call 24/7
Pharmacy not available 24/7; after-hours medication administration via MAR system
Scrub color provided
Tele/Monitor tech: Phillips system
Weekend requirement: every other weekend
Holidays: scheduled with permanent staff rotation
Orientation: 2 shifts of floor-specific orientation
Floating: NICU nurses do not float; however, experience attending deliveries is required and nurses will attend every delivery and participate in recovery

Patient Population

Gestational age: 34 weeks and above
Common conditions: bubble CPAP, TPN, IV and oxygen therapy, feeders and growers

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of NICU nursing experience at level 2 NICU or above
Active California RN license
BLS certification
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Must be confident and independent in managing patients without immediate neonatologist presence
Experience attending deliveries is required

Additional Notes

This NICU is described as more complex than average
Nurses must be able to handle patients independently and participate fully in delivery and recovery processes
