Pediatric ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced

Job Summary
The Pediatric ICU Clinical Nurse provides safe, competent, quality care to critically ill pediatric patients using evidence-based nursing practices. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on nursing theory, research, and organizational standards.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model relationship-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful rounding, and discharge wrap-up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Engage in peer and institutional review processes.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards according to protocol.
- Document nursing practice using institutional IT systems to support quality initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in New York State.
- Minimum 1 year pediatric ICU/critical care nursing experience required.
- Pediatric critical care clinical competence.
- BLS and PALS certification required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to assess patient status visually, physically, auditorily, and cognitively.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, lift, stoop, push, and respond quickly for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for clinical procedures (e.g., venipuncture, catheterization, CPR).
- Proficient in electronic medical record documentation and basic data entry.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English clearly.
- Physical and mental health to care for acutely ill pediatric patients with diverse diagnoses and behaviors.
