NICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract
Location: New York, NY

Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to NICU patients and their families, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within a collaborative interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Implement process improvement strategies and participate in peer/institutional reviews.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice, and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Project a professional image demonstrating caring, respect, compassion, and empathy.
- Incorporate ethical principles in decision-making.

Qualifications
- Current New York State RN License required
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Minimum 2 years NICU nursing experience required
- Minimum 2 years RN experience required
- Travel experience preferred but not required for Per Diem positions
- EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred

- Average Unit Census: 18 patients
- Unit Beds: 21
- Staffing Guidelines: Varies
- Typical Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12)
