Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (Travel)

Location: Henderson, Kentucky

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Float Requirements:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Potential float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every third weekend and every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required

Patient Population & Unit Information

• Stepdown/PCU patients including drips (insulin, heparin, cardiac)
• Conditions: Sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, cirrhosis, dementia
• Surgical patients: urology, abdominal, orthopedic
• Unit size:

  • Step Down Unit (SDU): 10 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
  • Telemetry: 15 beds, ratio Days 1:5-6, Nights 1:6
• Smaller facility with strong teamwork and experienced nursing staff
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires

Required Qualifications

• License: Current active compact RN license
• Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years as RN
  • At least 1 year solid experience in stepdown/PCU
  • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (prior travel experience required)
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
• Skills:

  • Telemetry interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
  • Ability to initiate and titrate insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips
• Preferred Skills:

  • PIV insertion
  • Stable home ventilators
  • Chest tube/indwelling drain management
  • Continuous BiPAP
  • Blood product administration
  • Neutropenic precautions
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Must be resilient, adaptable, and socially engaging

Additional Information

• Scrub color: Navy blue (no competing health system or agency logos)
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination
• COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
