Job Summary
Provide occupational therapy services primarily in acute and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include patient assessment, treatment planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with occupational therapy standards and physician orders. Supervise Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students as appropriate. Function as case manager for assigned cases and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive status.
- Develop and update goal-specific treatment plans based on assessment data and patient tolerance.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on pathology, prognosis, treatment rationale, and home programs.
- Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment.
- Document patient responses and treatment changes in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Complete daily documentation necessary for billing and regulatory compliance.
- Promote occupational therapy services within the community and participate in program development and process improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
- Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows and participate in ongoing learning opportunities.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Medium physical demand level: occasional lifting/carrying of 21-50 lbs., frequent lifting of 20 lbs., and constant handling of 10 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods, and perform postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
- Use of personal protective equipment including latex or substitutes as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
- Overall dexterity including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling, with possible repetition of these movements.
- Compliance with bloodborne pathogen and TB testing protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Michigan
- Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR)
- National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or related field
