Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

Overview

• Temp role in Lapeer, Michigan
• 13-week assignment
• Day shift, 10 hours per day
• Matching scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Scientist (2 years of experience)
• Medical Lab Scientist experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ASCP

Preferred

• Travel experience

Responsibilities

• Collect and prepare blood samples for laboratory testing
• Enter specimen collections into the lab information system
• Assist medical technologists and/or pathologists with designated laboratory tests
• Maintain laboratory equipment and records according to accreditation guidelines and quality control standards
• Use skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples
• Verify patient information, label specimen vials, and match requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Dispose of contaminated needles and biohazard materials according to applicable laws, standards, and policies
• Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into appropriate systems
• Process specimens according to established guidelines
• Organize blood-drawing trays and maintain sterile, first-time-use supplies
• Maintain a safe, clean working environment and follow infection-control and hazardous waste protocols
• Perform other related duties as required and directed
