Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU/Oncology

Job Description

• Work in a step-down unit caring for general medical and oncology step-down patients.
• Administer chemotherapy via IV and start IVs.
• Utilize equipment such as Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps.
• Document using EPIC electronic health record system.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase.
• May float to other med-surg areas including Acute Unit and Emergency Room.
• Weekend work every other weekend; scheduling includes some self-scheduling options.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request.
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Oncology nursing experience, including chemotherapy administration via IV.
• Certification from ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) or ONS (Oncology Nursing Society).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Certification.
• Proficient in starting IVs.
• Experience administering chemotherapy.

Required Health and Background Documentation

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Immunizations and/or titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine).
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or documented declination).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start.
• Annual TB questionnaire.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.
• Fingerprinting and state-specific registry clearances as required by Michigan regulations.

• No call responsibilities.
• Charge nurse typically not assigned patient load.
• Chemotherapy admissions reduce nurse assignment ratios.
• References: One professional reference from a direct supervisor or manager required.
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7-year work history required.
• Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency testing required.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required.
