Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PICU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position requires floating to multiple units including NICU, CV PICU, Emergency Department, Stepdown, and Medical-Surgical as needed.
  • Must be willing to comply with float expectations and accept assignments in these areas.
  • Recent Level 1 PICU experience is required.
  • Candidates with approximately 3 years of PICU experience will be considered, including first-time travelers.
  • Two supervisory/professional references required (one must be a supervisor or manager; peer references not accepted).

Required Qualifications

  • License: Ohio State or Compact RN license required.
  • Experience: Highly preferred 2 years of PICU experience; first-time travelers considered with closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
  • References: 2 professional references required, including at least one supervisor or manager.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – as applicable
  • Background Checks and Screenings:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including all counties lived/worked)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • State-specific searches including Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exemption, and Abuse Registry within 30 days of start
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam (must state candidate is free of communicable diseases)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within last year (with specific protocols for positive results)
    • Immunizations including Tdap (within 10 years), Flu vaccine (seasonal requirement with exemptions allowed), Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella
    • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
    • N95 Fit Testing within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fingerprinting:
    • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 60 days of start, must be updated for each new contract
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
    • Other competency exams as required by specialty/unit
  • Additional Documentation:
    • Education verification (highest degree verified through National Student Clearinghouse or equivalent)
    • Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement signed prior to start
    • Employment application and skills checklist (unit-specific, updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are welcome but should have closer to 3 years of PICU experience.
  • Must be willing to float to various pediatric critical care and related units.
  • Recent Level 1 PICU experience is mandatory.
  • All certifications must be current and compliant with facility standards.
  • Candidates must comply with all background, health, and licensing requirements prior to start.
  • Professional references must be submitted with the application.
