Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Registered Nurse)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide high-risk Labor & Delivery nursing care in an acute patient setting.
- Responsible for assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care.
- Deliver holistic, individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
- Educate patients and families and manage transitions of care.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
- Weekend rotation required; no on-call duties.
- Must have experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Required Background and Compliance
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
- Various federal and state screenings including FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to California law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start; must be renewed annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual renewal)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April)
- Completion of facility-specific regulatory and compliance documents prior to start.
- References and employment history verification required (7 years work history, no gaps over 30 days).
Additional Information
- Unit-specific skills checklist required; annual renewal.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams may be required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training may be required.
- Candidates must review and sign various policies and attestations prior to start.
- No on-call required; weekend rotation is mandatory.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-risk labor and delivery environment.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who are comfortable with high-risk OB patients and have strong clinical and communication skills. The role requires adherence to strict compliance and certification standards and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative acute care setting.
