Job Opportunity: Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse

Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a fast-paced cardiac telemetry unit specializing in cardiac and stroke patient care. The unit manages stable pre/post-procedure cardiac patients, including pacemaker implantation, cardiac catheterization, and post-interventional vascular procedures. Nurses will care for patients on multiple drips and manage telemetry monitoring.
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Days: Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Weekend schedule)
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Call: On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
- Float: Float requirement applies; frequency depends on census
- RTO (Return to Office): Not allowed after booking; max 7 days auto-offer RTO
- No holiday RTO on July 4th
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Primary cardiac and stroke unit
- Patients include stable pre/post pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, cardiac catheterization, TR bands
- Post uncomplicated peripheral vascular and cardiac interventions without sheaths
- Stable oxygen therapy patients (non-rebreather mask only if palliative, chronic BIPAP use allowed, no new BIPAP)
- Diagnoses: unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA, TIA
- High patient turnover: 78-90 patients per week
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 (nurses must be comfortable with 6 patients during surge)
- COVID positive patients currently housed on unit with opti-flow and acute BIPAP support
Required Skills & Certifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in a similar high-acuity, fast-paced cardiac telemetry or critical care setting
- Traveler Experience: First-time travelers accepted
- Skills:
- IV starts
- Telemetry monitoring
- Care of pre/post-procedure patients
- Management of cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone)
- PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) experience
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
Orientation & Uniform
- Orientation: 36 hours, must be available daily during first week for hospital orientation
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white (or a mixture), jackets must match uniform material and color
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience managing patient ratios and acuity in a cardiac telemetry setting
- Experience caring for pre- and post-procedure cardiac patients
- Experience with cardiac patient care and management of cardiac drips
- Experience with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high patient turnover
- Ability to float and take call as needed
- Unit uses Pyxis, EPIC Dimensions, and SBAR communication tools
- COVID precautions in place for certain patient areas
- Self-scheduling with leadership oversight to balance shifts
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with cardiac telemetry skills, comfortable with a challenging patient load and weekend night shifts. The role requires strong cardiac nursing skills, certifications, and the ability to work in a dynamic, high-acuity environment. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
