Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Requires 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
Epic electronic health record experience required.
Patient ratio typically 1:2, sometimes flexes to 1:3.
Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
No call required.
Float required: will float to all ICUs and may float to Emergency Department (ED) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to care for ICU patients. Occasional float to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 patient ratios.
Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.

Required Certifications

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified
NIH Stroke Certification
Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Patient Care Notes

May care for COVID-19 and other isolation patients; must know N95 mask size.
Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year.
Valid Registered Nurse license for Louisiana.
ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Schedule & Work Environment

1:2 patient ratio standard, sometimes 1:3.
Weekend shifts required (4 per 4-week schedule).
Floating to multiple units including ICU, ED, PACU, and occasionally MS/PCU.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
Drug screening within 30 days of start.
Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (recent testing required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination
Competency exams required annually (Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, Core Parts I-III).
Skills checklist within 12 months and updated annually.

Additional Notes

Nurses are responsible for multiple clinical tasks including lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
Floating may require adaptability to different patient care areas and acuity levels.
CPI certification can be completed onsite if not already held (cost applies).
Facility expects adherence to employee appearance policy and infection control protocols.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses comfortable with a dynamic ICU environment, floating responsibilities, and working with advanced medical equipment.
