Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Patient ratios typically 1:4, can increase to 1:5-6
• Shift options: 36 or 48 hours per week (OT paid after 48 hours)
• Floating required: may float within specialty clusters or to other nearby campuses (within 15 miles)
• Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
• Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to census
• Agreement may be canceled with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty
• Travel nurses are not eligible for employee incentives

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with stable chronic ventilators
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Competency & Testing Requirements

• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: must be passed within 1 year prior to start or completed within 72 hours of contract signing; up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exam required within 2 years prior to start

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 2 years, indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray; annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB
• Required vaccinations or immunity attestations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination)
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Drug screening: 9 or 10 panel negative drug screen within 12 months prior to documentation due date; must include marijuana panel
• Respiratory safety clearance required within 1 year of start and renewed annually
• Medical questionnaire for respiratory protection must be submitted prior to orientation

Documentation & Background Checks

• Government-issued photo ID required
• E-Verify compliance required prior to start
• 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and county checks, and sex offender registry
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Fingerprinting not required for this assignment
• Education verification required for non-RN candidates (not applicable here)
• Current resume/application required
• Two professional references within 2 years required (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN); employment verification accepted if references unavailable
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date

Additional Notes

• Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer
• RTO approval at manager’s discretion
• Candidate must provide all required documentation and certifications with correct legal name spelling
• Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and support nursing care teams as needed

This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with EPIC experience, ventilator skills, and a willingness to float within a multi-campus system during night shifts.
