Cytotechnologist Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

  • Perform analytical laboratory procedures requiring professional-level knowledge to execute, interpret, and analyze results, especially abnormal or atypical findings.
  • Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics.
  • Work primarily with Epic system.
  • Floating is rare and only within facility/scope of practice as needed.
  • No call requirements.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend.
  • Holiday work expected if major holidays fall within assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day).

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cytotechnologist within the last year.
  • Certification as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the International Association of Cytotechnologists (IAC).

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; non-compliance results in a 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling.
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for an 8-week assignment).

Required Documentation & Screening

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification and criminal history checks.
  • Education verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC). Instant drug screen acceptable; results must be available before start.
  • TB screening (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required including negative chest x-ray within 6 months. TB questionnaire required annually regardless of test results.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended but not required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Color Blind Testing required; alternative assessment available for blood collection tube color identification.
  • Competency exams required by agency (not client) for allied health professionals.

Additional Notes

  • Dress code: Teal scrub color.
  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start.
  • References: Two clinical references required by agency.
  • Work history verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
