Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech

Location

  • North Charleston, South Carolina

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Shift: Evening, Monday through Friday
  • Hours: 5x8-hour shifts (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM)
  • Holiday rotation required
  • No weekend shifts required
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities and possible permanent switch among campuses

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Certifications and Licenses

  • National Certification required: CBSPD and/or HSPA
  • BLS certification NOT required for this role
  • Must have a valid state license or certification relevant to Sterile Processing Techs (primary source verification required)

Required Documentation and Clearances

  • Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card
  • Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Statewide and national criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search (for sub vendors)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Assessment for Sterile Processors form completed and signed by a licensed provider within 1 year of start (not a general physical exam)
  • Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest X-ray if prior positive
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31), with documentation uploaded by December 5 deadline
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) and Complete Blood Count (CBC) with differential required due to chemical exposure risk

Competencies and Training

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blindness test required prior to start
  • Competency exam required
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed before orientation (approx. 2 hours)
  • Facility-specific safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (process and timing considerations apply)

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; guaranteed hours otherwise
  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • During hurricane season (June-November), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams; candidates should consider this before accepting assignments during peak months (August-September)
  • Badge photo required prior to start (passport-style, frontal view, business casual attire)
  • All certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; renewals or scheduled courses required if expiring soon
