Histology Tech - Travel/Contract
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Laboratory (Histology Tech)
- Shift: Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Evening shift, 5 days/week, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week)
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care
- Facility Highlights: Magnet recognized, Teaching hospital, Level III Trauma center
- Charting System: Excellian/Epic (Epic experience preferred)
- Parking: Flat rate applies
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Histology Technologist, including experience within the last year
- ASCP-HT certification required
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education, or a Bachelor or Associate of Applied Science degree
- Experience with automated and manual microtomes
- Skilled in cutting tissue sections using a microtome and cryostat
- Proficient in embedding techniques for GI specimens, skin, large specimens, and small specimens
- Experience with microtomy of fatty and hard tissue
- Experience preparing paraffin wax sections
- Precision microtomy skills
Schedule & Work Conditions
- No weekend shifts required
- No on-call duties
- No floating to other facilities
- Block scheduling accommodations available
- Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted
- Maximum of 5 days off allowed during contract (RTO restrictions)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check required within 1 year prior to start, including Minnesota statewide search and other standard checks
- MN DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates cannot start with fingerprints pending unless a specific exemption letter is provided
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap (no declinations accepted without approved exemption; exemptions restrict patient care areas)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframe
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions for patient-facing roles)
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of series, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no exemptions accepted)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination documentation required starting September 1, 2025 (declinations accepted)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing
- Drug testing: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start required (not required for client clearance)
Training & Documentation
- Completion of facility-specific preorientation online modules within 72 hours of receiving access (3-9 hours depending on specialty) required before start
- Annual skills checklist required
- Photo for badge: Passport-style headshot required within 48 hours of signing contract
- State license primary source verification required
Additional Notes
- This is a travel/contract position; local candidates within 100 miles are not accepted
- Candidate must be able to work full 14-week contract
- Client may cancel up to 3 shifts without penalty
- No floating or on-call responsibilities
