Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: Encinitas, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with current California RN license.
• Required certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or RQI
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – AHA only
  • Fetal Monitoring/AWHONN Advanced Certification (issued within last 2 years)
• Ability to circulate for C-sections (must be documented in skills checklist).
• Interview availability required.
• No on-call responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California.
• Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Current Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
• Current AWHONN certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Demonstrated ability to circulate for C-sections.

Facility & System Requirements

• Must have at least 6 months of experience with EPIC or Cerner electronic health record systems; less than 6 months will result in automatic cancellation.
• Completion of facility-specific learning modules (approximately 8 hours) prior to start; transcript of completed modules required (screenshots not accepted).
• Completion and signing of facility-specific job description and acknowledgment forms prior to start.
• Must complete and sign Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure agreements annually (expires end of February each year).
• Pyxis Acknowledgment required prior to start.

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start date.
• Proof of negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; if positive history, clear chest x-ray within 12 months and annual TB questionnaire required.
• Required vaccinations or titers with no declinations accepted for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or signed declination accepted.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or agency flu declination required year-round; masks required for unimmunized personnel during flu season.
• COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved medical or religious exemption is on file.
• Proof of N95 fit test within 1 year prior to start; must use approved mask models. Facility does not provide onsite fit testing.
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start date.

Documentation & Background Checks

• 7-year criminal background check including:

  • SSN trace
  • County, state, federal, and national criminal searches
  • National sex offender search
• HHS/OIG exclusion check required.
• Employment application and two satisfactory references required.
• Skills checklist required.
• W4 form proof required for file.

Additional Notes

• Scrubs for OR and Labor & Delivery are provided by the facility; no scrub color requirement.
• No radiation badge required for this position.
• Interview notes and clinical team assessments may be required for audit purposes.
• Employee flu clinics available free of charge for contractors with facility badge.

This position offers a focused Labor and Delivery nursing role on night shifts with no call, requiring specialized certifications and compliance with extensive health and facility-specific requirements.
