Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work at a pediatric post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) with day and evening 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system.
  • Shift options:
    • 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (3 shifts per week)
    • 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM (3 shifts per week)
  • Total hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), with experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and willingness to participate in pass/fail exams.

Preferred Certifications

  • CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
  • CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse)
  • CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Two supervisory references from recent employment (charge nurses acceptable).
  • Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years; gaps of 30+ days must be explained.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history and various federal/state databases, completed within 30 days of start.
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript.
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work.
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC), within 30 days of start and every 2 years thereafter.
  • Immunizations and titers required (with documentation including DOB and valid ranges):
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing: Two negative tests required (one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive history, plus annual TB questionnaire.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask models required).
  • Pass/fail Telemetry exam and medication test required on first day of orientation.
  • Completion of core competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 12 months prior to start.
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or during orientation.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-required compliance forms including emergency contact information, cyber security awareness training, and HIPAA training.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required depending on unit assignment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required if floating to certain pediatric critical care or transport units.
  • Chemotherapy certification required if assigned to pediatric oncology.

Notes

  • Candidates must have completed references at time of submission.
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail exams on orientation day with limited attempts.
  • Parking and uniform policies must be reviewed and acknowledged prior to start.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval.
  • Fit testing can be completed onsite as a last resort with prior appointment.
