Job Opportunity: Histology Tech
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, Monday to Friday, 9:00 PM – 5:30 AM (5x8 hours)
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Job Description
- Work in a histology laboratory performing processing, embedding, and microtomy (cutting).
- Facility is a short-term acute care hospital with 1,259 staffed beds.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Scrub color: Any color allowed.
- Floating: Clinician may float within their scope of care within the facility; no floating to sister facilities.
- Locals accepted.
- Pending state license accepted.
- No weekend shifts required.
- No on-call duties.
- No block schedule accommodations.
- Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full shift length).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Histology Technologist, including experience within the last year.
- National certification required: ASCP-CT or ASCP-HT, NBSTSA, or NCCT.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Must hold a valid Missouri state license or have a pending state license.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- No prior travel experience required.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 1 year of start date (includes SSN trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender).
- Drug screen within 12 months of start date (9-panel instant acceptable).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
- TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu (or approved exemption during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination required by 9/15 or approved medical/religious exemption.
- Fit mask testing required for new travelers and extensions in patient care areas.
- Two professional references within the last 3 years.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
- Arbitration agreement and other standard employment forms required.
Additional Information
- Parking: Monthly parking passes available.
- Dress code and fingernail policies must be reviewed prior to start.
- Badge photo required before start.
- No on-call or weekend requirements.
- Return to work restrictions: No more than 7 days off between shifts.
This position offers an opportunity to work nights in a large acute care hospital histology lab with a supportive environment for first-time travel healthcare workers.
