Operating Room Nurse

Overview

  • Travel/contract role in Springfield, Illinois
  • 13-week assignment
  • Day shift: 4x12, 10:45 AM–11:15 PM
  • 48 hours per week
  • Acute care hospital; Level I trauma center; Magnet facility
  • 562 staffed beds
  • 23 operating rooms

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • OR - Operating Room (2.5 years of experience)
  • OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Laparoscopic assisted bariatric cases
  • Appendectomy experience
  • Cholecystectomy experience
  • Colon resection experience
  • Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical experience
  • Laparoscopic assisted procedures experience
  • Mastectomy experience
  • Thyroidectomy partial/total experience
  • Whipple procedure experience
  • Must be able to work with all service lines except cardiovascular
  • Must be able to work on-call 1 shift per week
  • Must be able to work 1 weekend per month
  • Must be able to float within skill set as needed

Preferred

  • CNOR certification
  • Cerner experience

Case and Skill Experience Needed

  • Bariatric laparoscopic-assisted cases
  • General surgery: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, inguinal/umbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, partial/total thyroidectomy, Whipple
  • Neurology: cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedics: arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, closed reduction of fractures, open reduction of fractures
  • Plastic surgery: free flap microvascular
  • Transplant: organ donation
  • Urology: cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy
  • Trauma: amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries
  • Emergency management: code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia
  • Equipment/instrumentation: electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
  • Professional skills: administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol time-out procedure, urinary bladder catheterization

Schedule and Assignment Notes

  • Traveler chooses between 13 and 26 weeks
  • No block scheduling
  • All requested time off must be reviewed and approved
  • Scrubs are provided
  • Parking permit required; no cost stated

Submission Notes

  • Interview availability, housing review, and RTO/SD confirmation must be included with submission
