Job Details

• Unit: Medical Surgical/Telemetry (6/7 Lied) - 20-bed general medical surgical and telemetry unit including orthopedic patients.
• Patient Types: Total Knee and Hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, psychiatric illnesses, and behavioral health patients (including detox, dementia, potentially violent).
• Unit Setup: Split floors; 7th floor is secured for behavioral health patients. Travelers receive safety and de-escalation training.
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:5
  • Nights: 1:6 (rarely 1:7)
• Shift Options: 36 or 48-hour shifts available.
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
• Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required, specifically in a large, urban hospital.
• Prior Travel Experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - Preferred
• Skills:

  • Drip experience required on all floors.
  • EPIC charting experience required.
• Licensing:

  • Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking will be delayed six weeks.
• Floating: Must be willing to float within scope to other units or campuses as needed (units may include Neuro, Trauma, Observation, etc.).
• Local Candidates: Not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.
• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).

Additional Information

• RTO (Return to Office) Blackout Dates: 6/11/26 - 6/22/26 due to College World Series.
• RTO Policy: Up to two weeks of RTO permitted; requests must be submitted with application and approved by manager.
• Parking: Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates.
• Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required including federal and state-level screenings.
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam, drug screen, immunizations (MMR, Hep B, Varicella, Tdap), TB testing, flu vaccine documentation preferred.
  • Fit mask test and eye exam (if working in OR).
  • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted.
• References: Two work references from the past 2 years required.
• Orientation: Safety manual acknowledgement and annual skills checklist required.
