Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year
- Licensure: North Carolina or Compact license in hand
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation
- Skills: Must meet job-specific requirements as outlined in unit descriptions
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-timers are welcome
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Floating between units expected
- Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
- Local candidates within 75 miles are accepted
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
- Physical exam required within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers required; no exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination required
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start; annual updates not required
- Fit mask (N95 or equivalent) required for certain specialties
Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks, sex offender, education verification, and sanction lists required within 90 days of start
- Employment application and 7 years of work history required
- Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor
- Skills checklist must be updated annually
- Competency exams and pass/fail testing required at orientation
- Facility-specific onboarding documents and online modules must be completed prior to orientation
- Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Additional Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
- Candidate must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements
- Orientation includes training modules and in-house sessions, including crisis prevention and unit-specific competencies
This position offers an opportunity for travel nurses with at least 1 year of experience, appropriate licensure, and required certifications to work in a dynamic hospital environment with a structured orientation and compliance process.
