Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse

  • Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 9 hours each (varied from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM)
  • Patient Population: Pediatrics to Geriatrics
  • Unit: Outpatient Surgery (PreOp, PostOp, PACU)
  • Specialties Covered:
    • Retina surgery
    • Total hip/knee replacements
    • Hand surgery
    • Breast oncology and reconstruction
    • ENT
    • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
    • Hernia repairs
    • Podiatry
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Rooms: 5 rooms with an average daily census of 10-18
  • Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis
  • Floating: Required across all divisions of Outpatient Surgery
  • Call Requirements: No formal call, but may need to stay late based on room completion status
  • Weekends: None
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (up to 2 holidays)
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Scrub Color: Provided by facility

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Skills and Competencies

  • Must be willing to start IVs
  • Familiar with conscious sedation, general and local anesthesia
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment

Compliance and Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week start delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
  • Clinical screening required to determine clinical fit before final approval

Required Documentation and Health Requirements

  • Valid State RN License (Georgia)
  • Background check completed within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (degree related to nursing)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (cannot start with results pending)
  • Annual NURSYS verification
  • Skills checklist within 12 months
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blind testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = 14 hours)
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
