Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Job Description

• Must have Robotic experience
• On-call rotation: 1 in 4 or 5 (7pm-7am), weekend call from Saturday 7am to Monday 7am
• 20-minute call-back requirement; call house available if living outside call radius
• Weekend schedule: 1 weekend out of 5 and one weeknight per week
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted
• Preferred patient populations: Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents
• Special procedures/units: Orthopedics, ENT, General Surgery, OB/GYN, Urology, Podiatry

Required Surgical Experience

• Scrubbing experience required
• Skills include:

  • General OR procedures
  • Endoscopic sinus procedures
  • Laparoscopic assisted cases
  • Radical neck dissection
  • Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy
  • Tracheostomy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Colonoscopy, EGD
  • Peg tube placement/exchange
  • Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy
  • Colon resection (Open/LAP)
  • Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
  • Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
  • Whipple procedure
  • Abdominal hysterectomy
  • Bilateral tubal ligation
  • C-sections
  • Dilation & Curettage
  • Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
  • Vaginal hysterectomy
  • Arthroscopy
  • Closed/Open reduction of fractures
  • Laminectomy/discectomy
  • Ankle fusion, Bunionectomy
  • Cystoscopy
  • Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 1 year surgical tech experience (higher value confirmed)
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Community hospital experience required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)

Orientation

• 24 hours orientation

On-Call and Scheduling Details

• Fair share of on-call rotation (1 in 4 or 5)
• Call hours: 7pm-7am, weekend call from Saturday 7am to Monday 7am

• Weekend coverage: 1 weekend out of 5 and one weeknight per week

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• 7-year criminal background check including all aliases
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education verification for surgical tech degree
• State license verification (NY State) within 30 days of start
• Harassment prevention training certificate (annual)
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
• Competency exams and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam as required
• Photo for badge (passport style)
• Facility-specific policy reviews and attestations prior to start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (specific requirements based on booking date)
• Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
• References: 2 professional references required
• Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)
• 7-year work history verification

This position is ideal for Certified OR Techs / Surgical Techs with at least 1 year of surgical experience, including robotic surgery exposure, who are comfortable with on-call rotations and working in a community hospital setting. First-time travelers are welcome.
