Registered Nurse - Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool (Nights)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Position involves floating between Critical Care units within the same campus: PICU, NICU, CVPICU.
  • Small chance of floating to Kansas; therefore, MO and KS licenses are preferred (KS license not mandatory if willing to obtain).
  • Floating limited to similar pediatric critical care specialties only.
  • Pediatric critical care experience in PICU, NICU, or CVPICU required/preferred.
  • Must have prior travel nursing experience.
  • Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts.
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
  • Immediate start preferred.
  • Must be licensed to work in Missouri.
  • Clean Nursys verification required.
  • Preference for travelers with flexible schedules.

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
  • BLS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted)
  • PALS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted)
  • NRP (AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification, as required)
  • TNCC (required for ER/Peds ER)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
  • NURSYS Verification (for all RNs)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with 100% passing score (medication calculation/dosage test during orientation)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - required for Behavioral Health RNs and Techs only

Required Experience & Competencies

  • Pediatric critical care experience (PICU, NICU, CVPICU)
  • Travel nursing experience required
  • Pediatric pharmacology competency exam
  • Pediatric competency exam
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all clinical candidates)
  • Skills checklist for pediatric nursing (as applicable)

Licensure & Background Checks

  • Must hold a valid Missouri nursing license; Kansas license preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Background check within 3 months of start, including:
    • County checks for all counties worked or lived in past 7 years
    • Sex offender search
    • Statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas
    • Johnson County, KS and Wyandotte County, KS checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
  • Missouri Highway Patrol Check required.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service.
  • Physical exam (initial and annual) confirming ability to meet physical demands.
  • Immunizations and documentation required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or titers
    • Hepatitis B: documentation of 3 vaccines, titer, or declination
    • Varicella: proof of 2 vaccines or titers
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine (current season) or medical/religious exemption (declinations NOT accepted)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (not required annually).
  • COVID-19 vaccine currently not required.
  • Respirator safety clearance or questionnaire (RespSafety accepted).

Documentation & Compliance

  • E-Verify or attestation proof required.
  • Residency declaration form if working on a compact license.
  • Facility-specific forms including health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and parking permit request must be completed prior to start.
  • References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start.
  • Performance evaluation if employed with agency >12 months.
  • Employment application/resume required.
  • Internal evaluation if worked with agency >2 years.
  • Missouri EDL search results required.

Additional Notes

  • Floating will only be within pediatric critical care units, no floating outside of acuity.
  • Candidates must carry photo ID during shifts.
  • Medication calculation test during orientation requires 100% passing score; candidates have three attempts.
  • Facility sends welcome email but this does not confirm clearance.
  • Candidates must submit certain forms within 24-48 hours of contract signing.

This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care RNs with travel experience who are flexible and able to work night shifts in a fast-paced critical care environment.
