Step Down Unit Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel RN position in Henderson, Kentucky
• 13-week contract
• Day shift: 12 hours, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week; may accept 48-hour contracts upon request

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Telemetry interpretation (travelers required to pass tele tests)
• Ability to initiate and titrate insulin drips
• Ability to initiate and titrate heparin drips
• Ability to initiate and titrate cardiac drips
• Experience with Epic

Preferred Qualifications

• PIV insertion
• Stable home vents
• Chest tube/indwelling drain management
• CBI
• Stable drips such as lasix and protonix
• Blood product administration
• Continuous BiPap
• Drain management
• Neutropenic precautions
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Hard worker, resilient, adaptable, and social

Schedule and Float

• Every third weekend
• Every other holiday
• First to float within skillset
• May float to Deaconess Newburgh and Deaconess Gateway campuses
• Mid-shift float within the same campus is possible; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely but possible

Unit Details

• Stepdown/PCU unit
• 10 beds
• Tele unit with 15 beds
• Patient population includes stepdown/PCU patients with drips, sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, cirrhosis, dementia, and surgical urology, abdominal, and ortho cases

Additional Notes

• No local candidates within 40 miles
• Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Navy blue scrubs required
• COVID-19 vaccine not required, subject to change
