Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown (Travel)
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Unit: Cardiovascular Stepdown, 41 beds
- Patient Population: High acuity cardiac and telemetry patients including Afib with RVR, flutter, blocks, heart cath (without interventions), CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
- Shift: 12-hour day shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Weekend/Holiday: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
- Float: Required to float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float possible but cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely
- On Call/Call Back: Not required
- Ratio: Day shift 1:4-5; Night shift 1:5-7
- Teaching hospital: May require precepting students and new hires
- Scrubs: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing
- Prior Travel Experience: 1 prior travel assignment required
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class mandatory)
- Certifications:
- Current active compact nursing license
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Skills & Competencies
- Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
- Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, etc.)
- PIV insertion
- Chest tube and indwelling drain management
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Management of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)
- Antidysrhythmic medication dosing (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
- Nephrostomy tube care
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage change, resilient, and socially adept
Additional Information
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours/week (48 hours accepted upon request)
- Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- No local candidates within 40-mile radius accepted
- Orientation: Bi-weekly start dates with guaranteed hours except during holidays when unit is closed
- Attendance: 3 call-ins can result in termination
- Unit has excellent retention and experienced staff with long-term management
This position is ideal for experienced cardiovascular stepdown nurses with strong telemetry skills and prior travel experience looking for a challenging and supportive travel assignment.
