Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Stepdown (Travel)
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Cardiac Renal Unit Stepdown (32 beds)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Schedule: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
- Float Requirement:
- First to float within skillset
- Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
- Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
- On Call/Call Back: Not required
- Scrubs: No competing health system or agency logos allowed
- Teaching Hospital: May require precepting students and new hires
Patient Population
- High acuity telemetry/medical-surgical cardiac patients
- Conditions include: Atrial fibrillation with RVR, atrial fibrillation, flutter, heart blocks, heart catheterization without interventions, CHF, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
Required Certifications
- Current active compact nursing license
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac/telemetry nursing experience
- Trauma Level II experience
- Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
- Recent EPIC charting experience required (checkoff class will be required)
Skills and Competencies
- Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
- Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, heparin, etc.)
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Chest tube and indwelling drain management
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Stable drips management (heparin, lasix, protonix)
- Antidysrhythmic medication dosing (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
- Nephrostomy tube care
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage change well, resilient, and socially adept
Additional Information
- Ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7
- Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days but does on nights
- Excellent unit retention and experienced team
- Contract openings due to upcoming staff FMLA
- COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
- 3 call-ins may result in termination
- GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
