Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
Unit & Patient Population
- Cardiac Renal Unit with 41 beds
- Patient acuity: High – Telemetry/Medical-Surgical, Cardiac heavy
- Common conditions: Atrial fibrillation with RVR, atrial flutter, heart blocks, heart catheterization without interventions, CHF, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-7
- Unit strengths: Experienced team with excellent retention; manager with 15+ years on unit
- Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
Job Responsibilities & Float Requirements
- Primary location with potential float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) within skillset
- Float assignments include mid-shift float within the same campus; cross-campus float possible with 2-hour notice
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Weekend/Holiday schedule: 3 weekends every 6 weeks; every other holiday worked
- Must adhere to dress code: no competing health system or agency logos on scrubs
- Attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience
- At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
- Trauma Level II experience required
- Current active compact RN license for Indiana
- Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Recent experience with EPIC electronic health record system (checkoff class required)
- Must pass telemetry competency tests
Skills & Competencies
- Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation
- Initiate and titrate drips including antiarrhythmics, Heparin, amiodarone, etc.
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Management of chest tubes, indwelling drains, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), nephrostomy tubes
- Administration of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix) and antidysrhythmics (cardizem, tikosyn, amiodarone)
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to manage change, resilience, and strong work ethic
- Social and team-oriented attitude
Additional Information
- Orientation: Bi-weekly start dates beginning 6/15
- Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
- COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change)
- Guaranteed hours may vary during orientation and holidays when unit is closed
