Job Summary
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients (newborn to adolescent) in an outpatient ambulatory setting.
- Deliver age-appropriate communication and interventions.
- Assess, plan, and implement care for acute and chronic pediatric conditions in collaboration with providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Administer and document pediatric immunizations according to CDC and state schedules; monitor for adverse reactions and educate caregivers.
- Ensure adherence to well-child visits, developmental screenings, and vaccination catch-up protocols through proactive outreach and follow-up.
- Coordinate prior authorizations for specialty referrals, medications, diagnostic imaging, and therapies per insurance and clinic policies.
- Maintain strict infection control practices, including isolation precautions and hand hygiene specific to pediatric populations.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); respond to pediatric emergencies and assist in stabilization.
- Perform routine pediatric procedures such as vital signs, vision and hearing screenings, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection (nasal, throat, urine, stool).
- Provide family-centered education on illness prevention, chronic disease management (e.g., asthma, diabetes), and medication adherence tailored to developmental level.
- Utilize EHR systems for accurate documentation of nursing assessments, patient encounters, immunizations, and follow-up actions.
- Support care coordination including referrals to specialists, social services, and community resources.
- Adapt quickly to new clinical environments and protocols as a travel RN, ensuring consistent patient safety and care quality.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse license in California.
- BLS (American Heart Association) required.
- ACLS and PALS required.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of practical RN experience; outpatient experience preferred.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in a physician’s office or medical office setting preferred.
