Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Location: Hastings, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings (10-hour night shifts)
Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: As scheduled, rotating holidays

Job Description

• Seeking a generalist MLT with strong phlebotomy skills; phlebotomy may comprise up to 50% of night shift duties.
• Work areas include hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology (limited scope with culture setups and molecular platforms), and point of care testing.
• Blood bank experience is not required.
• Phlebotomy scope includes neonatal capillary and venous collections, blood cultures, venipunctures, and arterial blood gas collections (ABG preferred but not required).
• Experience with Gram stain is a plus.
• Must be able to multitask efficiently in a high-volume work environment and work well within a team.
• Prior travel assignment experience and experience in similar-sized facilities preferred.
• Training during the first week includes 40 hours on day shift, with additional days as needed before transitioning to contracted schedule.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification via ASCP or equivalent (AMT accepted).
• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Strong phlebotomy skills mandatory.
• Experience in hematology (including manual differentials and body fluids cell counts), microbiology/molecular testing.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information System (LIS): Orchard Software.
• Experience with EMR system: Epic.

Equipment and Systems Used

• Hematology: Sysmex XN, ACL Top 350, Arkray Urinalysis
• Chemistry: Roche Cobas 8000, Siemens Rapid Point
• Microbiology: Bactec blood culture monitoring system
• Molecular: Biofire TORCH, Cepheid Gene Xpert, Abbott ID Now

Additional Information

• Dress code: Solid colors preferred (red and black combination), lab coat allowed.
• Work radius: Candidates must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius.
• Department includes clinical lab assistants and phlebotomists who assist with processing.
• Supervision provided by Laboratory Director (daytime) and on-call at night.
