Job Overview

• Location: Ashland, WI (near Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands)

• Patient Population: Adults with alcohol use disorder, polysubstance use, alcohol detox, depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia
• Patient Care Focus: Psychiatric and detoxification care

Work Schedule

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7 AM–7 PM and 7 PM–7 AM)
• Shifts: Days and nights, alternating every other weekend and holiday
• Scheduling: No self or block scheduling; schedule set by director with some flexibility
• No call, standby, or floating requirements

Unit Environment

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:3, up to 1:5
• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7 and accepts patients
• Use of Physical Restraints: Rarely
• IVs: Rarely used on this unit
• Support Staff: Nurse aides/mental health specialists available during 7 AM–7 PM shifts
• Respiratory Therapist: Available if needed
• Telemetry: Not used on this unit
• Dress Code: Option to wear scrubs or street clothes; clothing must be neat, clean, and professional (no tank tops, blue jeans, or open-toed shoes); photo ID badges required

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 days with a preceptor

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
